i’ve been slacking…

in the busyness of the weekend i haven’t posted any food rules! not sure if you care….but, here are a few!

# 62 – PLANT A VEGETABLE GARDEN IF YOU HAVE THE SPACE, A WINDOW BOX IF YOU DON’T

even planting something small is so rewarding. it doesn’t have to cost a lot. planting seeds and talking about the process with your family is such a great learning experience! plant things outside if you have the space! look up information online if planting vegetables is new for you and/or go to a garden center and ask for help. eating produce you have grown yourself is so healthy for you and your family.  according to the nation gardening association, ‘a $70 investment in a vegetable garden will yield $600 worth of food.’ wow! you then will be much more likely to follow the next, all-important rule.

#63 – COOK!

‘cooking for yourself is the only sure way to take back control of your diet from the food scientists and food processors, and to guarantee you’re eating real food and not edible food-like substances, with their unhealthy oils, high fructose corn syrup, and surfiet of salt. not surprisingly, the decline in home cooking closely parallels the rise in obesity, and research suggest that people who cook are more likely to eat a more healthful diet.’ – michael pollan (food rules, an eater’s manual)
